Memorial Service

The service is set for 1:00 Saturday, June 20 at Remembrance Gardens in Austin. Remembrance Gardens is right next to Riverbend Church on Capital of Texas Hwy. It is a beautiful place... doesn't feel like a cemetery at all and I just know mom and daddy would both be very pleased with it. Please join us if you can.

Services

Since Daddy wanted to be cremated, it will be a few weeks before we can have a burial. In a few weeks, we will have a burial ceremony for both he and my mom (he wanted to have their ashes buried together) at Austin Memorial Park. In the meantime, we will have a drop-in gathering at my house beginning at 2:30 on Saturday, June 6 for friends and family who would like to join us in remembering Daddy, looking at pictures and celebrating his amazing life. The address is 5908 Northwest Place, Austin, TX 78731.

Daddy passed away this afternoon around 1 pm. He gave it a really hard fight, but the leukemia won in the long run. He died peacefully at home and Josh and I were both lucky enough to be there with him the whole time. I miss him so much already but I know he is in a better place.

White blood count is on the rise

Daddy is definitely more fatigued today than yesterday. And, we got some bad news on his blood counts. His white blood count is up to 115,000 (that is up from 15,000 on Friday) with 95% blasts. The nurses say this means he doesn't have "much longer," whatever that means. We'll just have to take it hour by hour at this point. I'll write again soon.

Home sweet home

Sorry for the lack of updates... and thanks to those of you who have given me a gentle nudge ;)

Daddy is home and enjoying every second of it. He is actually doing much better at home than I thought he would be. He is up walking around and enjoying seeing the kids and trading. Obviously, he isn't feeling 100%... he has oxygen and can't move around too much because he is very short of breath. But, he can get around the house on his own which is all he really seems to need.

We hired a wonderful helper, Page, to come in 8 hours a day Monday-Saturday to make sure the house stays clean , food gets cooked and laundry gets done and just to be there in case he needs something. The hospice nurse has been coming by to check on him and actually just came to draw blood today to get a cbc. My guess is he will need platelets and blood tomorrow.

I'll try to be better about updates... sorry!
